Eurobodalla Council is reminding all dog owners that timeshare arrangements for relevant dog exercise areas came into effect on Thursday 1 November.
This means that at various timeshare beaches, dogs are only allowed in the respective on or off leash timeshare area before 9am and after 5pm, and are prohibited between 9am and 5pm.
Council also reminds residents that changes to dog exercise areas on beaches, outlined in Council’s new Companion Animal Management Plan, will not come into effect until early May 2019, after the timeshare season. This aims to help avoid confusion this summer. In addition there are three new off-leash reserve areas that will come into place this year.
Council urges residents and visitors to check the signage and to visit Council’s website or phone Council on 4474 1000 if they’re unsure.
Council’s Environmental Services Manager Deb Lenson said the adopted plan was developed with extensive community input and aimed to improve responsible pet ownership across the board.
“Eurobodalla is a dog-friendly area where dogs are allowed on leash unless there is signage to indicate otherwise,” she said
“Our beaches are for everyone, and Council has endeavoured to strike a balance for dog owners and their pets and for those who do not want to interact with dogs.
“Residents and visitors can expect to see increased ranger presence over summer, but we also need the help of all dog owners and community members to inform us when there is obvious flouting of the rules.”
Council plans to improve signage across Eurobodalla in line with the new plan.
