Cobar's Water Restrictions will be tightened and will be enforced. With the current drought conditions currently affecting the supply of water from Burrendong Dam to Cobar Shire and temperatures rising, Cobar Shire Council will be commencing tough, but necessary water restrictions over the summer period as a precautionary measure to conserve water. Burrendong Dam, which is where our water comes from, is currently at 19.4% and falling.
From 1 DECEMBER 2018 an 'odds and evens' system is being introduced. If your house number is an even number, you can water on even dates, ie 2nd, 4th, 6th of the month. If your house number is odd, you can water on the odd dates, ie 1st, 3rd, 5th of the month with reduced time spans.
Watering (all handheld hoses, fixed sprinklers and irrigation systems) can occur between 6am and 9am and 6pm to 9pm ONLY. There should be no outside watering other than during these times.
NO car washing permitted on hard surfaces.
These measures are in order to ensure the water supply to Cobar does not reach critical levels which will require more severe restrictions such as a complete ban on outside watering.
Council appreciates your assistance in this matter. If residents continue to ignore the water restrictions, fines will be issued.
THESE RESTRICTIONS WILL COME INTO EFFECT ON 1 DECEMBER 2018.
