Liverpool Council will officially open a special White Ribbon Garden at Bigge Park on White Ribbon Day, 23 November, and invites the community to share a sausage sizzle and Coffee with a Cop to celebrate.
The garden celebrates Council achieving White Ribbon Workplace Accreditation earlier in the year, as well as giving the community a place for quiet reflection.
Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said the garden meant a lot to Council staff and she hoped the community would enjoy it as well.
“A lot of passion has gone into designing this garden and building it,” Mayor Waller said.
“I’m proud of the result and proud of the care that went into it.
“Council has come a long way since resolving to attain White Ribbon Workplace accreditation. We now have a comprehensive domestic violence leave program and we are continuing to work on broader cultural change.”
Council has joined Liverpool Police Area Command’s successful Coffee With a Cop program for this year’s White Ribbon Day.
Coffee With a Cop starts at 11am, followed by the formal ceremony at 12.30pm, with a barbecue to follow.
“Over the last three years, Council has taken active steps to stop violence against women, from raising awareness of the frightening statistics on domestic violence in the community,” Mayor Waller said.
“Through our leave policy and staff training program, Council shows its support for those experiencing domestic violence. It also sends a strong message that domestic violence is not acceptable in our community.”
