Local artists and community groups benefit from Arts funding

Ten local community groups and individuals have shared in more than $36,000 worth of funding from the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).
The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between State and Local Governments which invests in quality arts and cultural experiences.
It seeks to promote the significance and value of arts, culture and heritage and the key to supporting diversity and inclusivity, growing stronger regions and providing training and employment opportunities of artists and communities.
Deputy Mayor Nigel Hutton, Chair of the RADF committee said the grants provided local artists and community members with opportunities to explore their creativity in a number of ways.
“These funding programs are a great opportunity for our local arts community and individuals who have innovative ideas and wonderful stories to tell,” Cr Hutton said.
“Grant programs like this benefit the whole community and support Councils strategic plan for growth, support and development in the Arts and Culture domain.
“Four groups and six individuals shared in $36, 828 which will go towards Indigenous art and culture workshops, music and festival support along with the development of the artist’s personal capabilities.”
Library, Arts and Culture Councillor Pat Eastwood said the Capricorn Coast Writers Festival will put their grant towards their three day literacy festival that is seeking to attract both national and international artists to the Capricorn Coast in May 2019.
“Music lovers are also set to benefit from the Keppel Coast Arts Councils fund that will support Legend and the Locals with Troy Cassar-Daley, and the Yeppoon Ukulele Movements will use their funds towards employing a professional performer and vocalist to enhance the groups playing, singing and performing abilities,” Cr Eastwood said.
