Local tourism providers and attractions have excelled at the 2018 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards. City of Busselton Council extended its congratulations to local finalists and winners across various categories of the prestigious award including the Busselton Jetty, which won Gold in the Major Tourism Attraction Category and the CinefestOZ Film Festival, which won Gold in the Festival and Events Category.

City of Busselton Mayor Grant Henley said that the annual Tourism Award attracts a diversity of businesses from across the State and the fact that City of Busselton based operators have done so well is an excellent reflection on the calibre of local providers and the region’s ability to attract an increasing number of visitors.

“Council recognises the value of tourism as a key economic driver and has taken a very strategic approach to building the industry over the past decade. We have invested in major foreshore redevelopment and town centre revitalisation; we are expanding the Busselton Margaret River Airport and building the region’s events profile by supporting major events. We have worked hard to attract cruise ships to the region as well as 4-star+ short-stay accommodation on the Busselton Foreshore. Council is also pursuing the development of a new multi-purpose performing arts centre in the Busselton Cultural Precinct.”

The fact that South West tourism providers have been so successful at this year’s award ceremony further cements the region’s position as a major tourist drawcard for the State. It also validates Council’s commitment to these key strategic projects which will help to increase visitation and raise the profile of the broader South West region on a national and international platform.”

Outcomes and objectives outlined in this statement align with Key Goal Area 4 in the City of Busselton’s Strategic Community Plan (2017): An economy that is diverse, resilient and prosperous.
