The Thomas Street playground has just celebrated its 29th birthday. For a playground that was built for a 20-year lifespan, this is a remarkable achievement.
It’s time now to look to the future and plan a new playground that caters for all abilities and age groups.
Council officers have been talking to people involved in the original community project and will commence wider community engagement early in 2019. If you would like to receive updates on this project, click '+ Follow' at the top of the Have your Say page on our website
The engagement will be in two stages. The first stage will explore a ‘wish list’ of what people would like to see in an inclusive playground, informing the development of an outline plan. We will establish a community reference group and call for playground testers. Other considerations include incorporating public art into the upgrade and building a better quality, more accessible public toilet.
In the second stage we will develop a draft plan and get your feedback on it. The final plan will be announced later in 2019 with construction planned for 2020.
