Relax in the park to the sounds of Christmas cheer with the City’s much-loved end of year celebration – Maroondah Carols on Saturday 1 December 2018.
The community is invited along to Town Park for some carol singing, fun activities and a visit from a certain jolly man with a white beard and red suit.
Maroondah Mayor Cr Rob Steane said the free annual community event was a great way to spend time with family, friends and neighbours in the lead-up to Christmas.
“The weeks leading up to Christmas are a special time for many of our residents. Maroondah Carols is a fantastic way to start the countdown to 25 December, by getting together and singing some Christmas songs in a friendly, community atmosphere,” Cr Steane said.
The pre-show entertainment commences at 6.30pm with popular Melbourne children’s performer Bethany Fisher set to light up the stage in her ‘Christmas Spectacular’ show.
Then at 7.30pm, the main show begins with Christmas carols; soloists Daniel Hearn and Caitlin Spears; supported by the Maroondah Carols Band made up from members of the Maroondah Brass Band, Croydon Wind symphony and Vocal Vibes Choir.
“We are so lucky in Maroondah to have such an array of talented musicians who join in our celebrations every year. We are also very lucky that Santa can find time in his very busy schedule to come along and spread his own special brand of Christmas cheer. He might even join in for a song or two with the community,” Cr Steane said.
There will also be face painting, an animal farm, roving performers and food vans, along with Glowsticks and novelty LED candles available for purchase on the night.
“I encourage everyone to get into the spirit and bring along a picnic hamper, or indulge in other tasty treats from various food vans and stalls,” Cr Steane added.
At approximately 9.45pm, a stunning fireworks display will light up Town Park.
“As always, it’s important we don’t forget about our canine friends during the fireworks show,” Cr Steane said.
“The loud ‘bangs’ of the fireworks can cause dogs to panic and be frightened, due to their acute sense of hearing, so please ensure your dog is secure in your home or back garden during this event.”
To make the Carols event as accessible as possible, there are pathways that are suitable for wheelchairs and prams, accessible parking on Norton Road and our very own Marveloo – a mobile restroom for people with a disability and their carers.
Make sure you use the hashtag #maroondahcarols on the night!
This is a smoke free and dog free event.
