Summer Reading Club: Curious Creatures!

1 December 2018 - 31 January 2019

From real to the imaginary, explore and connect with a range of curious creatures!

Visit Armadale or Kelmscott Library and register. Collect your bookmark and Reading Log to record how many books, or hours, you read over the holidays.

Visit summerreadingclub.org.au for activities and competitions.

When you have completed your Reading Log, come to the library and receive your certificate and reward pack!

The City of Armadale Libraries will host some fun sessions for babies at Stockland Harrisdale Shopping Centre. Spend quality time with your little one and encourage their early literacy skills.

Suitable for children aged from zero to two years. Bookings not required.

A dedicated craft corner is a marvellous thing! A variety of materials will be available to inspire your own creation.

Tales of Curious Creatures!

Monday 14 January, 2 - 3pm Armadale Library

Do you know how the Quokkas came to Rottnest? Storyteller extraordinaire Glenn Swift will enthral us with astounding tales of curious creatures. A lively and hilarious session of stories!

Suitable for children aged six to 12 years.

Family Lego Robotics

Thursday 17 January, 4 - 5pm Saturday 19 January, 10 - 11am Kelmscott Library

Get hands on with Lego robotics! Working together as a family group, share a WeDo Lego robotics kit and an iPad to build simple machines, using basic computer programming to make them move.

Suitable for all ages.

Wildlife with Kanyana

Friday 18 January, 11am - noon Armadale Library

Meet some Australian animals! Join the Education Officer from Kanyana Rehabilitation Centre and learn more about our fauna. There will be the opportunity to touch an animal and take a photo.

Suitable for children aged four to 12 years.

Crafternoon

Monday 21 January, 2 – 3pm Armadale Library

Concoct your own curious creature using an array of craft materials.

Suitable for children aged six to 12 years.

Will-O’-The-Wisp Lanterns

Tuesday 22 January, 1 - 2pm Tuesday 22 January, 2.30 - 3.30 pm Kelmscott Library

Learn about faerie legends with Pirateman, and make a lantern using upcycled glass jars, stickers and pipe cleaners. Search for treasures left behind by the Will-O’-The-Wisps to conclude the magical session! 

Harry Potter Craft – Teen Scene

Wednesday 23 January, 2 - 3pm   Armadale Library

Help us prepare for the Harry Potter Book Night in early February! Make some craft items to decorate the library including wands, witches hats, Platform 9¾ wallpaper and candle lights. We will use some of your creations in our Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!

This event is suitable for ages 12 to 16 years.

Egg Carton Creatures

Thursday 24 January, 10.30 - 11.30am History House Museum

Use your imagination and create a curious creature from an egg carton. Make a dragon, an animal, a bug or create a new creature of your own design.
