When the silly season hits, it’s easy to let your usual wonderful sustainable habits slip.
It’s not unusual to see our rubbish and recycling overflowing with gift wrap, ribbons, leftover food and packaging, and then there’s the real Christmas tree to deal with.
Below are some tips to have less waste this Christmas. They may seem small but will make a big impact.
Why not buy a real Christmas tree in a pot this year? Not only can you use it every year, it will reduce your waste and help protect the environment. However, if you do buy a cut real tree, ensure to book our free Christmas tree collection in January. The tree will be turned into mulch. Book a green waste collection online or call 9278 4444. Minimise food waste by writing a shopping list and buying only what you need. Try to buy less packaged products and ensure leftovers are shared. Recycle or reuse the wrapping – paper, envelopes and cards can all go into your recycling bin. But please remember to not put foil wrapping, tape or ribbons in the recycling bin. Don’t forget we also have flexible plastics recycling available to Boroondara residents.
