West Ward Councillor Janet Pearce was elected Mayor of Macedon Ranges Shire Council at a Special Council Meeting in Gisborne last night.
South Ward Councillor Mandi Mees was appointed Deputy Mayor.
Cr Pearce, who was appointed to Council in 2016, succeeds Cr Jennifer Anderson as Mayor.
Cr Anderson was Mayor for the first two years of the current Council’s four-year term, in 2016-17 and 2017-18, and was also Mayor in 2014-15 during the previous Council’s term.
Cr Pearce said she was honoured to be elected, and thanked her fellow Councillors for their support.
“Our Council is committed to working together as a team and delivering for our residents,” Cr Pearce said.
“I’ve really enjoyed my first two years on Council, getting to know the community and meeting with residents.
“It’s been a time of learning and listening. We’ve developed a Council Plan that reflects the needs and aspirations of the community, and implemented budgets which deliver those essential projects and services.
“I thank Cr Anderson for all her hard work in the past two years, and look forward to building on this and working with Cr Mees and my fellow Councillors to continue to deliver on our Council Plan priorities.”
Also at last night’s meeting, Councillors reaffirmed their commitment to the Councillor Code of Conduct and appointed Councillor delegates to a range of internal and external committees.
