Emerging Gold Coast artists have welcomed a new creative hub with Mayor Tom Tate today launching a one-of-a-kind community arts space at Coolangatta.
The City’s Level Up Studio + Gallery comprises three key components - the Level Up Residency studio and Level Up Gallery as well as public programs.
Mayor Tate said the need for a larger space reflected the success of the City’s Level Up program.
“The Level Up residency has transformed from a pilot program, outgrowing its small studio space at Helensvale Shopping Plaza,” he said.
“Young creatives involved with the Level Up program now have access to a much larger community arts space at Coolangatta Strand. It’s four times the size.”
The Level Up Studio + Gallery opens tonight to showcase creative activations and pieces by young Gold Coast artists.
The evening includes a group exhibition curated by Dion Parker from S.O.F.A Gallery, featuring works by Courtenay McCue, Melissa Spratt, Jaye Jermyn, Harry MacIntosh and Daniel Pap.
Activations at the event include live painting and an inflatable sculpture.
Applications for the 2019 Level Up residency intake open in February, next year.
The gallery will host a Community Open Day on Saturday 15 December from 9am featuring a range of free community art workshops for all ages.
