In May 2013, Queenscliffe Planning Scheme Amendment C23 introduced Special Use Zone – Schedule 3 (SUZ3) to incorporate the Queenscliff Ferry Terminal Implementation Plan into the Queenscliffe Planning Scheme.
Amendment C23 was exhibited to the public and an independent Planning Panel was appointed by the Minister for Planning to hear submissions. Following consideration of the report of the Planning Panel, the amendment, including the Queenscliff Ferry Terminal Implementation Plan, was approved and incorporated into the Queenscliffe Planning Scheme by the Minister for Planning.
As part of the planning permit application process, Searoad Ferries undertook extensive community consultation on their proposal for the upgrade of the ferry terminal. Consultation included media coverage by television news programs and the Geelong Advertiser, a webpage dedicated to the project, three half-day information sessions in the Princess Park Pavilion, and an online survey accessed via the Searoad Ferries website.
After due consideration and assessment of the above, the design for the new ferry terminal was determined to be ‘generally in accordance with’ the requirements of the Queenscliffe Planning Scheme and the Queenscliff Ferry Terminal Implementation Plan, as approved by the Minister for Planning. As a result, the Queenscliff Ferry Terminal Development Plan – Stage 2 was endorsed by Council on 14 June 2018.
All Council decisions referred to above were made in the public domain.
