Warm up your singing voice and get your picnic blanket ready, because the Burdekin Community Christmas Carols are returning to Watson’s Green this year.

Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said this year’s event, which will take place on Sunday 9 December, will be a spectacular night for the community to come together and celebrate in the heart of Home Hill.

“The Burdekin Community Christmas Carols has previously had some big performers, and this year is no exception,” Cr McLaughlin said.

“There will be special performances by The Voice star René Le Feuvre as well as more than 40 local singers, dancers and musicians.”

Nine News Adelaide reporter Reece D’Alessandro, who grew up in the Burdekin, will MC the evening.

The Burdekin’s youngest stars are also being encouraged to feature in the celebrations by taking part in the traditional children’s lantern parade.

“Our Burdekin and Home Hill Libraries will be hosting lantern making workshops in the days leading up to the Christmas Carols, during which children can create their very own lantern.

“Those who are unable to attend the workshop are encouraged to make a lantern at home, and using a battery-operated candle, bring their lantern to the event and join in on the procession.

“It would be wonderful to see our children light up the night together, as they parade through the crowd,” Cr McLaughlin said.

The Community Christmas Carols is reverting to its traditional under-the-stars format after last year’s one-off Christmas Spectacular at the Burdekin Theatre.

There will be visits from Christmas Minnie and Mickey Mouse and of course Santa Claus, plus free face painting, a photo booth and Christmas market stalls.

There will also be a variety of food and drink options available for purchase from local community groups.
