Surf Life Saving Western Australia’s Boardies Day calls on workplaces, schools and the wider community to roll up their fundraising sleeves.
Wear your favourite pair of boardies, best beach attire, or red and yellow themed outfit for a donation in support of Western Australia’s volunteer surf lifesavers!
Three of WA’s 31 Surf Life Saving Clubs fall within the City of Wanneroo’s boundaries - Quinns Mindarie, Alkimos and Yanchep - and City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts is calling on residents to support the City’s volunteer surf lifesavers.
“Our City’s volunteer surf lifesavers spent more than 4000 hours patrolling our beaches last season and together, conducted almost 500 rescues, first aid treatments and preventative actions to ensure the safety of residents and visitors”, Mayor Roberts said.
“As our City continues to grow, the demand on these clubs, their volunteers and the important services they provide for our community continues to grow.
“This December, I encourage all residents to wear their boardies or beach attire and dig deep to support our surf clubs and the crucial role they play in keeping our coastline and beachgoers safe.”
Help raise vital funds to support local surf lifesaving clubs by simply choosing a day in December to fundraise and registering your school or workplace for Boardies Day 2018 at www.boardiesdaywa.com.au.
The Boardies Day initiative is part of SLSWA’s annual BeachSAFE Appeal, which launches on 30 November and is essential in ensuring that volunteer surf lifesavers have the necessary equipment, training and resources to continue their life saving work. In addition to Boardies Day, individuals can donate online at www.beachsafeappeal.com.au or donate to the red and yellow army of volunteers collecting throughout the metropolitan area on Friday 30 November. All money raised through the Appeal is invested back into WA’s Surf Life Saving Clubs and the priceless work of volunteer surf lifesavers.
