The Urandangi airstrip is receiving an upgrade as part of a Boulia Shire Council airports upgrade project. Acting CEO of Boulia Shire Council Harin Karra said the resealing of the airstrip has been completed. “Line-marking is the next step and should be complete by Monday December 10 followed by the installation of emergency solar lighting,” Mr Karra said. The upgrade will also feature an animal-proof fence. “It will provide safety for the Flying Doctors who land on the airstrip once a week and for the kangaroos that sometimes jump onto the airstrip.” These works were made possible through a grant of more than $200,000, through the Commonwealth Government Remote Air- strip Upgrade Program. The funds allocated to the Boulia Shire were also spent on repairing surface cracks and a switchboard upgrade at the Boulia Airport.
