Council has been successful in securing grant funding from the RMS to install a roundabout at the intersection of Heber and Auburn Streets. This upgrade will create a safer intersection for vehicles and pedestrians alike. It will also assist in traffic calming through our CBD.
The second stage of works will involve the installation of a rubber roundabout and the approach islands being marked with sandbags to test driver behaviour of the final design.
This work will be carried out between 6am and 5pm on Wednesday, 28 November 2018 (weather permitting). During this time the southern leg of the intersection (Auburn Street) will be closed and there will be traffic control in place across the entire intersection. Following completion of the second stage, the intersection will operate as a roundabout.
It would be appreciated if drivers could PLEASE AVOID the Heber/Auburn Street intersection on Wednesday. There will be delays surrounding the works and your avoidance will help prevent excess congestion.
The third and final stage of the install will occur in February/March 2019.
These works will contribute to significant safety and traffic management improvement at this intersection. Council appreciates the cooperation of the public during this time. If there are any queries, please contact Council’s Engineering Department.
