Alva Beach Park is set to be transformed after Council approved the upgrade of the beach-side playground during a Council meeting earlier this month.

Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said Council had allocated $90,000 to replace the ageing slides and climbing frames with new equipment which combines sensory elements with more traditional play equipment.

“This improved play area will feature old favourites such as slides and swings, as well as musically inspired installations including slap pipes and a four-note drum set.”

Cr McLaughlin said the playground had been designed to appeal to children of all ages.

“There will be three slides each catering to different age groups and levels of courage, including one that stands over three meters above ground level. There will also be a basket swing, climbing rope frame, interactive panels and a surfboard rocker.

“The improved playground along with the existing toilet amenities and previously upgraded barbeque facilities, picnic areas and walking pathways will make the park a wonderful place for families to enjoy the outdoors.”

The project is expected to commence early next year.
