Council is currently undertaking a review of facilities across the shire in order to guide future works and investment.
Council owns or manages 275 facilities, from indoor swimming centres to sheds and toilet blocks across the shire.
This year’s budget included more than $3 million to maintain and renew these facilities. Funds were also allocated in the budget for the demolition of disused structures, such as the old Woodend squash courts building. This building has recently been demolished and work is underway to return the area to public open space.
The current review of facilities is part of a 2017–2027 Council Plan (Year One) action to “continue to review Council-owned/managed community facilities to guide future investment”.
The review process considers the condition and usage of each facility, and the information obtained guides Council when scheduling future renewal and upgrade works. It also assists in identifying opportunities to consolidate facilities that are underutilised.
Any opportunities regarding future improvement or consolidation works at facilities will be discussed with relevant community and user groups. The community will also be able to have its say as part of the development of the annual budget each year.
