COUNCIL NEWS 28 NOVEMBER 2018
Council’s 2017/2018 Annual Report has been completed, adopted by Council and forwarded to the Office of Local Government. The continuation of the Integrated Planning and Reporting (IPR) process has seen Council take a more strategic approach to asset management and the provision of services to our residents. The Annual Report also reviews Council’s performance in regards to works and projects undertaken as per the 2017/2018 Operational Plan. These works and projects were derived from the 2017-2021 Delivery Program and prioritised by Council accordingly. It is very pleasing to report Council completed and made significant progress in regards to a number of projects and activities some of which are highlighted below:
Grenfell Aquatic Centre Development Grenfell Health Hub/Medical Centre Development Grenfell Main Street upgrade Grenfell Sewerage Treatment Works Upgrade Facilitate Aged Care Development SH17 and SH6 construction and maintenance Regional Roads upgrades Local roads construction/maintenanceThe completion and continuation of these projects as well as others outlined in the Annual Report is a credit to Councillors and staff. It is imperative that we continue to work as a team to achieve our strategic objectives that have been identified and prioritised as part of Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting (IPR) process. The supplementary State of Environment Report and the 2017/2018 Financial Statements have been prepared as an Appendix to the Annual Report.

A major or integral component of Council’s 2017/2018 Annual Report are the 2017/2018 Annual Financial Statements. A representative from Council’s external auditors Mrs Katy Henry delivered a presentation in regards to the financial statements to Council and staff during the November Council meeting held on Thursday 15 November, 2018. Ms Henry confirmed that Council is in a very sound financial position and recognised that Council has undertaken various initiatives in regards to our financial resources to ensure Council is financially viable and sustainable in the long term.
Council’s works program is continuing and the following works have been completed, are currently in progress or about to commence:
New Forbes Road strengthening and widening grading of Euraldrie, Hancock Flynns, Hancock Williams and Mittons Roads and Lynchs Lane Emu Creek rehabilitation continuing Industrial area subdivision electrical services completed Industrial area subdivision communication conduit installed Roadside spraying program continuing Quandialla drainage works continuing Caragabal Park upgrade works continuingThese works are all part of Councils works programme and are vital to ensure our assets are upgraded and maintained for the benefit of our residents.

There is certainly a lot happening in the next month which is excellent as these events are very important to the economic and social fabric of our Shire.
A reminder to residents nominations for the annual Weddin Shire Australia Day Awards are currently being invited and interested persons and organisations are invited to make nominations for the 2019 awards within the categories detailed below:-
- Citizen of the Year
- Senior Citizen of the Year
- Community Event/Organisation of the Year
- Community Achievement Awards in any category.
Nominations forms are available at the Council Chambers or Council’s website: www.weddin.nsw.gov.au and will be accepted up until Friday 7 December 2018. Residents are encouraged to nominate community members who they think are deserving of an award in any of the categories.
Also a reminder that the Mobile Blood Service will be visiting Grenfell next Tuesday 4 December 2018 and will be stationed at Vaughn Park. Blood donations will be accepted from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm. The Australian Red Cross Blood Service encourages anyone who wishes to make a blood donation to:

The next exhibition at the Grenfell Art Gallery is "SEWN - A Textile Journey" by residents (artists, stitchers, sewists) of the Weddin Shire which will be on display from 27th November 2018 – 6th January, 2019.
Grenfell’s dedicated local artisans gather regularly to teach and learn the traditions of textile arts. Ancient methods such as English paper piecing, foundation piecing, needle turn applique, hand quilting, embroidery and wool felting are being combined with new techniques to construct the amazing pieces on show in the Art Gallery.
The Art Gallery is open Monday to Friday 10am - 4pm, Saturday 10am - 3pm & Sunday 10am -2pm.
