“For the week ending 23 November, the following key works were completed by Council staff”, noted Council’s Mayor, Cr. Ray Thompson.

“Within the urban Lithgow area last week, Council staff have been prioritising the completion of concrete restorations. This has included the replacement of roughly 25 metres of footpath in Rabaul Street and the reconstruction of driveways in Carbine Street. It is noted that there are a number of water main breaks occurring as a result of aging infrastructure. Restoration of overlying infrastructure such as roads and footpaths are a priority when required.”

“Last week, our rural works staff have continued their road maintenance efforts through the improvement of Old Bathurst Road, South Bowenfels, asphalt patching of Cullen Bullen, Rydal and Mount Lambie and the removal of vegetation at Lake Wallace, Wallerawang. This important work has been completed improve driveability of our rural roads while ensuring adequate sight distances in remote areas.”

“Lastly, capital projects have seen some progress last week. Notably, the sealing of Commonwealth / Williwa Lane, Williwa Lane and Jamison / High Lane in Portland and James Parade Lane in Wallerawang is complete, ensuring the highest level of service to motorists in these areas. Additionally, new park furniture has been installed at Queen Elizabeth Park in the form of two new table settings and 1 new shelter. Coming up to the summer months, it is hoped these will be put to good use”, said Mayor Thompson.

“As much of the community would be aware, there has been a great deal of progress in the roll out of NBN infrastructure throughout the urban Lithgow area”, said Mayor Thompson. “In line with this work, Council engineers and works staff have been working closely with NBN contractors in order to ensure that the works are restored to an appropriate standard. While the temporary asphalt restorations may look unsightly, NBNCo remains committed to permanent concrete restorations of all infrastructure in affected areas. Restorations will be completed by contractors or Council, with full cost recovery from NBNCo.”
