Light Up the Lake will return to Chipping Norton Lake’s Grand Flaneur Beach this New Year’s Eve with a double-set of firework displays at 9pm and midnight.

“Liverpool’s lakeside festivities are the place to be on New Year’s Eve,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.

“For the first time, Light Up the Lake will feature a double-set of firework displays at 9pm and we are trialling midnight fireworks, giving families a chance to celebrate together at an earlier time, while everyone else can enjoy the buzzing atmosphere late into the evening.”

“On top of this, families will experience the very best international cuisine, carnival rides and live entertainment.”

Gates at the all-ages celebration will open at 5pm, with entertainment inspired by decades-gone-by commencing at 7pm.

“Fireworks, food and family fun is just the beginning,” Mayor Waller said.

“This year Council has partnered with Seven News to treat attendees to an immersive multimedia journey back in time as we remember the most iconic moments from the 1970s up to now.”

A different decade will be showcased each hour with a video recap of significant news events and pop culture trends, before launching into live performances inspired by the music and fashion of each era.

The final hour will see a DJ spinning top hits from the past decade as we countdown to 2019 with a massive midnight fireworks display.

“Council is delighted to bring back our iconic Light Up the Lake celebration for families to ring in the New Year in a safe environment that’s close to home,” Mayor Waller said.

“I look forward to celebrating the fantastic year that was with the people of South West Sydney.”

Council is also on the lookout for volunteers to help bring Light Up the Lake to life. If you're available 31 December and want to be part of the action, apply online before 30 November.
