Catastrophic weather conditions for Central Highlands

The State Disaster Coordination Centre has identified an area bounded by Rockhampton, Biloela, Emerald and Clermont as a Catastrophic Fire Danger forecast area.
This means that if a wildfire erupts it will not be manageable.
A fire at in the Carnarvon National Park is of major concern. Tourist infrastructure has been impacted. This fire is fast moving on multiple fronts and has passed through Takarakka Resort.
Two backpackers that were reported missing at Carnarvon Gorge have been located safe and well.
The fire at the Blackdown Tablelands National Park has been contained.
The weather is predicted to deteriorate into the night with wind gusts of up to 100km/hr forecast.
The local disaster management group has been activated by order of the state government and is operating from the Central Highlands Regional Council office in Emerald.
Local Disaster Coordinator Glenn Bell said the situation is ‘unprecedented’ in Queensland.
