Gender equality survey, a key to understanding violence against women

Published on 28 November 2018

Did you know that gender inequality is one of the key drivers of violence against women?

Given this fact, and the disturbingly high rate of violence against women in our community, understanding gender equality should be one of our major priorities.

Council, in collaboration with the Gender Equity Action Sunraysia group (GEAS), is determined to delve into this issue by surveying as many residents as possible to get their views on gender equality.

The easy-to-complete online survey asks residents about their thoughts and experiences in relation to gender equality and should only take about five minutes to complete.

Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Min Poole said the survey results will serve a vital role in shaping programs and methods to combat domestic violence in Sunraysia.

“By gaining a better understanding of our residents’ views and thoughts on this major contributor to domestic violence, this will help inform where further action can be taken to prevent violence against women,” Cr Poole said.

“The results will tell us how deeply the community understands gender equality and will also be used to measure changing attitudes over time as we implement actions.

“It’s also great timing coming off the back of our annual White Ribbon Community Walk, allowing us to keep this very important issue in the spotlight.”

Cr Poole encouraged as many people as possible to take part in the survey.

The Gender Equity Community Attitudes and Experiences survey is open now and can be accessed via Council’s Have Your Say Page at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/haveyoursay.
