Council has approved a planning application for a function centre and tavern at 239-241 Maroondah Highway in Chirnside Park, following its 27 November meeting.
The proposal put to Council was for the development of a tavern and retail premises with a liquor licence, with associated vegetation removal, reduction in car parking rate and varied access to a road zone.
The approved development will be adjacent to the existing Reading Cinemas at the southern part of the site, near the corner of Kimberley Drive and Maroondah Highway.
An additional convenience restaurant will also be established immediately south of the existing strip of food and drink tenancies near the cinema.
Councillors passed an alternate recommendation, which required signage and lighting for pedestrian crossings, specific car parks for senior citizens to use between 5pm-midnight every day close to the cinemas and a change to the operating hours of the business.
This approved application will form part of the overall redevelopment of the Chirnside Park Shopping Centre precinct.
