The City of Wanneroo was presented with two accolades at the National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA) Awards last week.

The awards ceremony was held on 19 November in Campbelltown New South Wales, and celebrated and showcased excellence and best practice in projects and initiatives that support the development of growth areas across Australia.

The City’s ongoing work developing Yanchep with its development partners through projects such as the new purpose-built sports facilities at Splendid Park (Yanchep Active Open Space) and revitalising the Mary Lindsay Homestead impressed the panel of industry experts, and was recognised in the ‘Designing the Outer Suburbs of the Future’ category.

The category recognises design and construction which is forward-looking and understands how communities will want to live and work in the coming decades.

Developing Australia’s first ‘smart playground’ in collaboration with Satterley, Landcorp, Biba and The Playground Centre saw the City of Wanneroo take home gold in the ‘Creating Value through Growth’ category as well.

Kinkuna Park in Eglinton was transformed into a multisensory wonderland of active outdoor fun in March this year, with a six-month trial combining a suite of augmented reality (AR) games with existing playground equipment to reorient children’s screen fixation to the outdoors.

City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts, who is also Deputy Chair of the NGAA, said the award wins illustrate how innovative thinking, collaboration and investment in the City’s developing suburbs was delivering quality infrastructure and long-lasting benefits for the community.

“We are so proud to have been recognised by the NGAA for our efforts in building connections and shaping our developing suburbs into rewarding and comfortable places to live,” Mayor Roberts said.

“Yanchep has been earmarked as the next strategic metropolitan centre in Perth’s north, and building assets to shape the future of this area takes more than just investment – it takes a strong vision.

“To see this vision, along with state-of-the-art initiatives such as those employed in Kinkuna Park in Eglinton, recognised and celebrated is a testament to the City of Wanneroo’s forward-thinking and strategic nature.”
