City set for huge Christmas Pageant

The stage is set for a massive Christmas pageant and after-party, with strong nominations received for this weekend's big event.

Broken Hill City Council and the Rotary Club of Broken Hill South have received 54 float nominations for the parade, and 14 stall nominations offering everything from food and drink through to arts and crafts.

South Rotary's Geoff Cullenward said he was elated with the response to this year's event.

"We'd just like to thank everyone for getting on board and getting their nominations in early to ensure the pageant can go ahead as scheduled," he said.

"There was no danger of cancellation this year, everyone has got right behind it, and I think that shows that community spirit is high and Broken Hill and there's a good feeling in the city.

"Everyone who has nominated should feel proud that they're continuing this great local tradition and bringing real happiness to kids and families this Christmas."

The pageant will be followed by an after-party in Sturt Park which will feature various stalls from community groups, along with children's entertainment including face painting, a bouncy castle, and a merry go round.

The after-party will also coincide with the Perfect Light Film Festival, which opens at 6pm and will see 12 films screened from 8pm in the park. The selection of short films will be judged live by a panel of celebrity judges for a share in $2250 in cash prizes.

The Pageant is scheduled to begin at 6pm on 1 December 2018, with the after-party in Sturt Park to follow at 6.30pm.

The Pageant will follow its usual course, beginning in Oxide Street and travelling along Argent Street, before turning into Sulphide Street.
