Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is encouraging residents to become part of the new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee with nominations soon closing.
TRC Chair of Environment and Community Councillor Geoff McDonald said community representatives had until Friday 7 December to submit their applications.
“I’ve been impressed with the quality of applicants we’ve already received but encourage more people to apply,” he said.
“This is a new group for the region and it’s important we get a good representation of the community on the committee.
“A priority of the new committee will be developing a TRC Reconciliation Action Plan to provide a framework for Council to support the national reconciliation movement.
“The establishment of this important committee will provide guidance on the cultural needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.”
Interested community member applicants must identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and will need to submit a written expression of interest to [email protected] or by post to Council.
The committee will consist of 11 members including two councillors.
Applications close at 5pm on Friday 7 December 2018.
More information regarding the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee or the application process can be found at www.tr.qld.gov.au/atsiac or by contacting Council on 131 872.
