ARTC announces public information sessions for Inland Rail project

Ipswich residents will get a further chance to hear about the Australian Government’s $10 billion inland rail line that will transport freight between Melbourne and Brisbane at a series of community information evenings.

The proposed 1,700km line is the largest freight rail infrastructure project in Australia. The first train is expected to operate from 2024-25.

The proposed route takes in the Ipswich region, including Grandchester, Calvert, Ebenezer, and then past Willowbank, Peak Crossing, Washpool to Kagaru, before joining up with the existing Bromelton to Acacia Ridge line.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is hosting information display sessions about the Inland Rail project at various locations, including Peak Crossing, Gatton and Toowoomba, in December.

These sessions will focus specifically on the public-private partnership and why ARTC chose it; the progress of the planning and approvals process; and the project timeline.

The Peak Crossing session will take place at Peak Crossing Community Hall, 33-35 Fassifern St on Tuesday, 11 December. There is a light meal provided at 5pm and the presentation starts at 6pm. Children’s activities will be provided during the presentation. RSVP to the ARTC is essential.

Other sessions will be held at Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre, Lake Apex Drive, Gatton on 12 December and Toowoomba Empire Church Theatres, Neil St, Toowoomba City on 13 December.
