Preparation works are now under way ahead of a tender being awarded for the construction of two new netball courts at Irymple’s Henshilwood Recreation Reserve.
The new courts will be established on the western side of the reserve, between the oval and the large drainage basin.
It follows a collaborative effort by Council, the Irymple Football Netball Club and Sunraysia Football Netball League to secure $100,000 in Victorian Government funding through the Country Football Netball Program 2018-2019.
As part of the preparation works, 16 small-to-medium sized trees have been removed this month to make way for the new courts.
Councillor for Recreation and Sport Glenn Milne said the courts would improve the Irymple Football Netball Club’s ability to host Family Days, as well as enabling more of the club’s netball teams to train at Henshilwood Recreation Reserve.
“This is a great boost in facilities for the Irymple community, which will not only benefit players, but their families as well,” Cr Milne said.
Once a tender has been awarded, work is expected to start in February next year and be completed in April.
