Ballarat residents will come together to celebrate the abilities and achievements of people with disability in a free event tomorrow, Saturday 1 December, from 10am-3.30pm, for International Day of People with Disability.
The City of Ballarat is partnering with Latrobe Community Health Service (NDIS Local Area Co-ordinator) to host a family-friendly celebration at Delacombe Town Centre to mark International Day of People with Disability.
International Day of People with Disability is a United Nations’ sanctioned day that is celebrated annually. It aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.
This year’s theme for International Day of People with Disability is ‘empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality’.
The day will feature live performances, giveaways, community group activities, including face painting and Big Yard Games, and displays from the City of Ballarat and the local NDIS team.
A mini film festival, the Wide Angle Film Festival, which runs from 1.30-3.35pm will be held at Showbiz Cinemas free of charge.
The main street in Delacombe Town Centre will be closed to host the event from 6.30am-3pm.
Accessible car parking is available and the City of Ballarat’s new Marveloo will also be on-site.
A Marveloo is a transportable adult changing place, with a roof tracking hoist, an adult size change table and a fully accessible toilet.
