Council services during the Christmas and New Year period

Some of our services and centres have different hours between Monday 24 December 2018 and Wednesday 2 January 2019. Where times are different from usual, details are shown below.

The public holidays during the festive season are:

Christmas Day - Tuesday 25 December Boxing Day - Wednesday 26 December New Year’s Day - Tuesday 1 January. Customer Service

Customer Service will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. On these public holidays, calls to 9278 4444 will be automatically transferred to the emergency after-hours service.

Household bin collections

There will be no household waste, recycling and green waste collections on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. If your bin is normally collected on a Tuesday, your bin will be collected on the prior Saturday and your bins should be placed out on the Friday night.

Usual collection date new collection date Tuesday 25 December, Christmas Day Saturday 22 December Tuesday 1 January, New Year’s Day, Saturday 29 December

If your bin is collected on any other day, your collections remain as normal throughout the holiday season.

If your bin is collected on a Tuesday, your collections return to normal on Tuesday 8 January 2019.

Libraries

Our libraries are closed on public holidays, so they won’t be open on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Opening hours will differ during the festive season - please see our table below for all hours.

Boroondara Recycling and Waste Centre

The centre is open every day except Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Good Friday. See what you can and can't drop off, and any fees that apply, on our Boroondara Recycling and Waste Centre page.

Kew Depot Recycling drop-off centre

Kew Depot will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Normal opening times apply at other times.

Maternal and Child Health Services     

Our services are open all weekdays by appointment only,  except on public holidays. Newborn babies will be home visited. To make an appointment, see our Maternal and Child Health service page.

Health, Ageing and Disability services Health, ageing and disability: open all days except public holidays. No services on public holidays, except personal care. Shopping services: replacement services will be made around the public holidays. Domestic assistance: replacement services will be made by request only. Respite: replacement services can be requested but are subject to available resources.

360 Boroondara Youth Resource Centre

The centre will be closed from Saturday 22 December 2018 and will reopen at 10am on Wednesday 2 January 2018.

Meals on Wheels

This service is closed on the public holidays. Meals for those days will be delivered on the preceding weekdays. To apply for Meals on Wheels or other food services, see our food services page.

Neighbourhood houses

Neighbourhood houses are closed for different periods from late December to late January. Please visit the websites of the individual centres for up-to-date hours, which are available on our Neighbourhood houses and community centres page.
