Garden awards go greener

Gifted green-thumbs of the inner east have been recognised this week at the City of Bayswater’s annual Garden Awards.

Now in its 37th year, the event celebrates the City’s most impressive gardens and the talented residents behind them.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said that three additional categories took the long standing awards to a new level in 2018.

“The City of Bayswater is dedicated to promoting and celebrating sustainable practices not only internally but within our entire community.

“We have introduced two new categories this year; Community Garden and Children’s Home Garden.

“It’s been fantastic to see some of our youngest residents developing a real passion for creating environmentally friendly spaces both at school and at home.

“Congratulations to the prize winners of each category, and thank you to everyone who entered this year’s competition.”

Prize winners of each category were as follows:

Best Verge Garden: winner Ruth Peiffer, runner up Sandeep Ahuja. Best Urban Garden: winner Leonie Cherry, runner up Daniel Paulas. Best Vegetable Garden: winner Miho Tanabe, runner ups Tim Collins and Amanda Rogers. Best Native Garden: winners Tim Collins and Amanda Rogers, runner up Lisa Davis. Best Community Garden: winner Environment House. Best School Garden: winner Hillcrest Primary School, runner up: Durham School Garden. Best Children’s Home Garden: winners Dani, Mace, Haro and Arki, runner ups George and Henry. Best First Time Entry: winner Jarrod Hutton, runner up Helen Andrews.
