“Congratulations to our team at the Information Centre for the amazing job they do welcoming over 20,000 people through the doors of the Centre annually, but more impressively welcoming over 80,000 people online,” said Yass Valley Mayor, Rowena Abbey. “It is a wonderful achievement for a small region like ours to be acknowledged among our tourism peers across the state of NSW and testament to the work being carried out by our staff.”
The category supported by Destination NSW recognises the consistent delivery of high quality and face-to-face information services to the visitor and was hotly contested by seven finalists all from regional NSW highlighting the importance visitor services plays in the regional tourism industry.
“The Tourism Awards are a great way to benchmark your product or service against the best in the industry” said Council’s Economic Development & Tourism Manager, Sean Haylan who paid tribute to his team, the local tourism industry and the broader Yass Valley community.
“The importance the community plays in welcoming visitors to the region and the investment from the private sector in providing tourism products and employment opportunities is the foundation of our success,” continued Sean. “Yass Valley is one of the fastest growing tourism industries in Australia”.
Yass Valley will now compete for the national title at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards to be held in Launceston on Friday 1 March 2019. They will be up against stiff completion, with the Visitor Information Services from each State and Territory vying for the Award:
