The new Blue Mountains Visitor Information Centre at Glenbrook is officially open.
Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill and Senator for Western Sydney, the Hon Marise Payne, declared the new VIC open on Friday, when the Centre opened its doors to visitors to the Blue Mountains region.
The Mayor said, “The project has delivered a modern facility at the gateway to the Blue Mountains to meet the needs of our growing tourism sector – a key contributor to the regional economy.
“Glenbrook Visitor Information Centre is an accredited information centre with fully trained staff, who will help visitors plan their stay and make the most of their time in the Blue Mountains region.”
The Mayor welcomed the significant investment of almost $700,000 from the Australian Government for the upgrade, matched by Blue Mountains City Council.
The provision of two Visitor Information Centres - at Glenbrook and Echo Point - is a key part of Council’s tourism offering.
“The Visitor Information Centres are an important component of our broader Destination Management activities which are guided by the Blue Mountains Destination Management Plan”, said the Mayor.
The new Visitor Information Centre will also serve as an office space for the Regional Strategic Alliance between Penrith / Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains Councils.
