First tenants move into new Community Hub
Shire of Ashburton 3 Dec 2018

The Shire of Ashburton is excited to announce that the first tenant of the newly constructed Paraburdoo Community Hub are preparing to move in.  The Paraburdoo Lifestyle Centre, who is operating the new gymnasium, will move into its brand new facilities on Thursday 6 December and open its doors to the public shortly thereafter.

Made possible with funding from the Shire of Ashburton, Rio Tinto and the State Government’s Royalties for Regions program through the Pilbara Development Commission, the Community Hub, is an eagerly anticipated addition to Paraburdoo.

Shire President Kerry White said that seeing the first of the new tenants move in is an exciting milestone for the whole of the Paraburdoo community.

“The new gymnasium will be the first to move in and we expect residents to have access to the facility soon after,” said Cr White.  “The new hub will make a positive difference to the community and provides a greater range of facilities for social events and sports and recreation.”

Rio Tinto’s Paraburdoo Operations General Manager Kent Franey said that the Paraburdoo Hub will become a great asset, providing long lasting benefits for the local community.

“The development of the Hub creates the ability to encourage greater social participation that fosters opportunity and a more connected community. It will enhance the liveability and vibrancy of Paraburdoo by supporting programmes and vital services that generate a sense of belonging to the town”.

Pilbara Development Commission Chief Executive Officer Terry Hill said community infrastructure underpinned the quality of life for regional communities.

“The Paraburdoo Community Hub is more than just a building, it will become the heart of the town as a place people connect, learn and grow together,” Mr Hill said.

“It’s great to see the first stages of the new hub opening to the community.”

While the new Community Hub will be accessible in stages to residents over the next few months an official opening is being planned for early next year.

The new facility includes a multipurpose sports hall, new oval and pool amenities and a purpose built gymnasium.   As part of the project the netball courts were resurfaced, improvements were made to the Lesser Hall and the existing sports hall has been refurbished and will be the new location for the Karingal Neighbourhood Centre.
