Works to improve Kingston's sporting facilities ready to ramp up

4 December 2018

Kingston’s ongoing investment in local sporting facilities is continuing full steam ahead with Council approving the next steps for two key projects.

Community consultation is also underway on a multi-million dollar upgrade at Dingley Village’s Chadwick Reserve to meet growing demand for AFL junior facilities in the area.

Detailed designs for a new $4.5m pavilion at the Dales Park netball centre will now be prepared to provide high-quality facilities for thousands of netballers who use the site each week.

Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley said that Council would now begin detailed designs for the joint-funded Dales Park Pavilion project, which recently received a $500,000 Female Friendly Facilities Grant from the Victorian Government.

“Upgrades to the pavilion will have long-lasting benefits for the 1,500 players who use Dales Park,” said Cr Oxley. “The new pavilion will replace the aging infrastructure, reinvigorate the site and encourage better participation in local sport for women and girls."

Upgrades to the Oakleigh South pavilion will include change rooms, meeting rooms and a new social area. “This will boost local netball and help the 13 netball clubs who use Dales Park to retain and attract new members.” said Cr Oxley.

In Dingley Village, Council aims to upgrade facilities at Chadwick Reserve to meet growing demand for junior AFL facilities.  It is proposed to provide:

a new, larger pavilion replacing the current aged building featuring female-friendly change rooms, disability access, umpire’s facilities and a community room improved playing surface on the junior AFL/cricket oval and training area lighting for the playing areas new playground and shared paths.

Council will host a community information session at Chadwick Reserve on Thursday 6 December, 5pm-7pm.

“Everyone is welcome to attend. We’d love to hear community feedback about plans to upgrade this important sporting precinct,” said Cr Oxley.
