Manly Village students paint iconic ferry on The Corso

Year 6 students from Manly Village Public School have picked up paintbrushes and helped local artist Patrick Hunter bring the iconic green and yellow Manly ferry to life on The Corso.

This month, Patrick Hunter otherwise known as Inkhunter, is transforming the St Matthews Church retail construction site into an eclectic and colourful urban artwork. By turning the construction site into artwork, Northern Beaches Council is making sure Manly keeps its unique vibrancy and atmosphere.

Patrick tasked the 25 Year 6 students to paint the Manly ferry, while answering their questions about his painting techniques, how he became an artist and the difference between graffiti and street art.

Sadly, there has been a small amount of graffiti on the mural but it was a good opportunity for Patrick to teach the students about creating something beautiful, but always making sure you have permission first.

Lachie, one of the students said: “I think the graffiti on the mural is awful but it’s been great to be able to paint over it and turn it back into something awesome.”

We asked a few of the students what they thought about the mural:

Harry said:

“I think the mural is really cool- there are so many bright colours. My favourite part would have to be the whale- I love the colours and polka dots used in the background.”

Liliana said:

“My favourite thing about Manly is the beach and surf so the wave is definitely my favourite part of the mural. I love that you can stand in front of the wave and it looks like you’re surfing!”

Sofia said:

“The mural is so gorgeous! I love it all but I especially love the wording ‘Manly Vibes’- I think it looks really cool.”
