Elder Park to Rock to the Sounds of Oz Music This New Year’s Eve

Elder Park will be jumping to the sounds of Oz Rock this New Year’s Eve with Australian supergroup, Antipodean Rock Collective (ARC), headlining the family-friendly event along the banks of the picturesque River Torrens.

Featuring members of legendary Australian bands Spiderbait, Jet, Powderfinger, and You Am I, the group's members share a passion for rock n’roll that spans decades.

ARC has entertained audiences from across the globe, from packed clubs to international festivals, including the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Band members Kram, Mark Wilson, Darren Middleton and Davey Lane will perform from a vast catalogue of hits from Australia and New Zealand that will have audiences dancing and singing to those Oz Rock favourites that everyone loves.

Lord Mayor of Adelaide Sandy Verschoor said that the live music program at this year’s event would be a celebration of Adelaide’s status as a UNESCO City of Music.

“Adelaide has been globally recognised for its local music scene and we’ll be celebrating some of our finest home-grown talent on New Year’s Eve with South Australian acts that range from electronic, blues and soul, indie pop, and world music sounds.

“The night will not only be a celebration of a year past and a new year ahead but will also be a fantastic opportunity for our local creative musicians and culture makers to get some great exposure.

“And to get the crowed rocking as we head toward midnight, ARC will play all those Australian music favourites that people love to hear.

“Bringing in the New Year at Elder Park has become a tradition for many friends and families. It will be a great night for everyone, so come along and settle yourself in for a night of celebration and entertainment.”

The home-grown South Australian live music talent will offer something for everyone.

Alana Jagt blends indie pop and rock with moody alt-country and a Motown groove. Alana has played at acclaimed festivals such as Handpicked festival and Scouted, plus sold out shows at the Guitar Festival.

China Roses is an electronic, pop-rap duo from the coastal suburbs of South Australia. With lyrical influences such as Lily Allen and Allday, the pair have established their sound with a combination of intricate, harmonious music and deep, image provoking lyricism.

Donnarumma will bring some rock attitude and punk sensibilities to the line-up, while one of Adelaide’s most colourful music personalities, Max Savage, brings together some of the city’s most gifted performers into an eclectic big band that blurs the boundaries between country, soul, cabaret and rock n’roll.

The Mudra Dance Academy will fill the stage with colourful and spectacular Indian and Bollywood dancing, and Tim Whitt will take the crowd to midnight and beyond with a DJ set spanning everything from disco, funk, hip hop and soul.

As always, two stunning sets of fireworks will light up the sky, one at 9pm and the other to herald the New Year at midnight, proudly presented by principal partner HomeStart.

Food from around the world will fill hungry stomachs, the Kids’ Zone will keep the little ones entertained, and roving performers will bring fun and surprises to every corner of the park.

The City of Adelaide is working toward more sustainable events. This year’s event will be straw-free, with reusable straws available if required upon request. All food packaging from vendors will be compostable and can be deposited in the organics collection bins onsite along with any food scraps. Free water refills will be available, and the event will also be balloon-free.
