Design your own 3D glow in the dark object, get up close with backyard bugs and make silly sock puppets or cardboard creatures at Council’s four libraries during the upcoming school holidays.
The free and action-packed program starts after the festive season, from Wednesday 2 January 2019 and offers a diverse range of activities to keep the children busy during the remainder of the school holidays.
“Our public libraries are offering a diverse program of free events to appeal to school children of all ages and interests,’’ said Mayor George Brticevic.
“The program also highlights the important role that public libraries play in our community,’’ Cr Brticevic said.
“Our libraries are a unique and valuable resource but they are also great places to visit during the school holidays because they offer opportunities for educational play and fun,’’ he said.
“I encourage parents and carers to ensure their children take advantage of the many activities on offer at our public libraries during the summer school holidays.’’
If you, your family and friends are going stir crazy at home after Christmas and New Year’s Day, don’t despair because Council’s four libraries will host Games Week from Wednesday 2 January to Sunday 6 January.
Visit Campbelltown’s HJ Daley Library, Eagle Vale Library, Greg Percival Library, Ingleburn and Glenquarie Library, Macquarie Fields to play a variety of board games during Games Week.
Release your inner Geppetto and do some puppeteering at Paper Plate Puppets at Greg Percival Library, Ingleburn from 10.45am to 12pm, Wednesday 9 January.
Watch the movie Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature at Glenquarie Library, Macquarie Fields from 2pm to 3.30pm, Friday 11 January or make your own silly sock puppets from 11am, Friday 18 January.
The 5 to 12s will have the chance to hold and touch a range of creepy crawlies at Backyard Bugs with Rangers on the Run at Campbelltown’s HJ Daley Library from 1.45pm to 3pm, Wednesday 16 January.
Children from age 12 to 18 can learn the basics of 3D printing and let their imaginations go wild when they create a 3D glow in the dark object at Eagle Vale Library from 2pm to 3.30pm, Thursday 17 January.
Bookings for the free activities open at 9.30am, Tuesday 18 December and parents and carers are advised to get in quick to avoid disappointment because the events are extremely popular and places fill up quickly.
