Whether you have to make room for Christmas presents or just having a clean up after the Christmas festivities, Maroondah residents are urged to book Council’s on-call hard waste collection service early to avoid disappointment during the holiday period.

Maroondah Councillor, and Council’s representative on the Metropolitan Local Government Waste Forum, Mike Symon, said that due to demand this time of year, residents would need to book their pre-Christmas collection early.

Christmas and New Year booking information and collection dates are available on our

Households with a residential waste service are entitled to two hard waste collections per financial year, which each collection allowed to be up to two cubic metres.

“Residents can simply contact Council to make a booking, whether online, over the phone or in person at one of our service centres. They will then be advised of their allocated collection week,” Cr Symon said.

“Bookings must be made before placing your waste on the nature strip. Once booked, Council will post you a booking kit which includes your pink ‘Booked’ sticker and information on what can be placed out.  If you don’t receive your sticker in the mail prior to your collection date, the waste will still be collected, so still put it out the weekend prior to your collection week.

“Collections begin on a Monday of collection week, which gives residents the weekend to sort through their items and place it on the nature strip, ready for pick-up,” he said.

Householders are also reminded that there are rules as to what is suitable for collection.

Hard waste collection tips Place any small or loose items in cardboard boxes, don’t use bags. Place the pink ‘BOOKED’ sticker in a visible location – on a large item is usually the best place. There must be no more than two cubic metres of waste per collection. Two cubic metres is two metres in length, one metre in depth and one metre in height. Uncollected items must be removed from nature strips within 24 hours of collection
