The City of Bayswater is offering residents an additional recycling collection to ease the burden of extra household waste over the holidays. The additional yellow-top bin collection will take place between 24 December 2018 and 5 January 2019, with bins collected on both weeks during this period.
Mayor Dan Bull said the festive season was the most wonderful time of year but could also be the most wasteful.
"We should all make an effort to reduce waste over the festive season – avoiding single-use plastic plates and cutlery is a great place to start.
"A waste-free Christmas is preferred, but we also understand how easy it is for excess rubbish to build up around the house at this busy time of year. By offering an extra bin collection the City hopes to reinforce the importance of recycling and diverting recyclables like wrapping paper, cardboard and packaging from ending from landfill.
"We recently updated our recycling guidelines to make it even easier to understand what should and should not be placed in your recycling bin.
"To take advantage of the ."extra collection, make sure you place your yellow-top recycling bin out on your collection day both weeks between 24 December and 5 January
Residents are also reminded that bin collections will be one day later than usual between 25 and 28 December 2018; and between 1 and 4 January 2019.
