The City of Wanneroo is making changes to lighting at its parks to reduce energy use and cut down on costs.
New LED floodlights are now in use at the Wanneroo Skate Park, allowing extended use of the facility after-dark and enhancing the security of the popular park for its many users.
The installation of new floodlights has already occurred at the netball courts at Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex, and the roll-out will continue at parks throughout the remainder of the financial year, including:
Edgar Griffiths Park, Wanneroo Abbeville Park, Mindarie John Moloney Park, Marangaroo Marangaroo Skate Park (Paloma Park), Marangaroo Heath Park, Eglinton Addison Park, Merriwa.Mayor Tracey Roberts said the new floodlights meant better efficiency and less maintenance, leading to lower operating costs.
“When compared to traditional metal halide lights the benefits of the new LED floodlights include a reduction in energy demand and a projected 50 per cent reduction in maintenance and running costs,” Mayor Roberts said.
“They also have eight times the running time, resulting in a reduction in replacement costs.
“This is a fantastic outcome, and it will allow our residents to use these wonderful community facilities for longer, and feel safe while doing so.”
The project is closely aligned to the City’s Strategic Community Plan under the Environment theme by seeking alternative ways to improve energy efficiency.
