- City of Ballarat Development and Planning Director Angelique Lush
In August City of Ballarat signed a significant Waste to Energy Heads of Agreement with Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB).
MRCB will detail their proposal to Council next week.
The agreement allowed MRCB to undertake a due diligence study leading to a business case for a Victorian first, $300 million municipal Waste to Energy plant in the Ballarat West Employment Zone.
As part of this agreement, the City of Ballarat agreed to give MRCB a 120-day exclusivity period during which City of Ballarat would not deal with other companies about the proposal.
When the City of Ballarat receives MRCB's proposal, it will do its own due diligence to ensure their proposal is the right fit and is what’s best for Ballarat ratepayers.
The City of Ballarat will continue to emphasise the message that Ballarat residents need to minimise, reuse, recycle and recover waste.
The City of Ballarat will also ramp up its efforts to ensure maximum diversion from landfill including the introduction of an All Waste Interchange and a Waste to Energy facility.
