What are you doing this Christmas to help end plastic pollution?
The fake versus real Christmas tree debate rages on. Some say artificial trees need to be kept for at least 20 years to balance out the CO2 emitted by their creation and even after 20 years of use they go to landfill at the end of their life. But what about cutting down all those pine trees, is that really any better? I think we can settle on a potted tree that we re-use year after year being the best bet.
Here’s the good news that is beyond debate. Residents across the Northern Beaches are committed to reducing single use plastic in many areas of their lives. We see them with their reusable coffee cups, their canvas shopping bags, refusing straws at the cafe and more and more locals are ditching single use plastic this Christmas.
We’re encouraging this behaviour with a competition to find the best plastic free decorations, wrapping and gifts this Christmas. Five $50 vouchers are up for grabs for those locals who send us pics of their ‘green’ Christmas creations.
Northern Beaches residents can enter via our post on Facebook or email your best plastic free Christmas pics to [email protected] by Tue 18 Dec.
Entries will be judged on their sustainability and how beautiful and festive they are. Winners will be notified and names will posted on our website and Facebook.
Have a very Merry Christmas.
