Beat boredom and increase the fun with Summer Reading Club this school holidays

As part of the many school holiday activities on offer this summer, Livingstone Shire libraries are delivering another fun-filled season of the Summer Reading Club!
Created for children and young people pre-school age to 17, the Summer Reading Club is a free program led by State Library of Queensland (SLQ) that inspires imaginations and instils a love of libraries and reading.
Libraries, Art and Culture Councillor Pat Eastwood said participation in the Australian Summer Reading Club allowed children and young people to develop a broader sense of community with other children across the country.
“The theme for this year’s program is Curious Creatures, which encourages eager young readers to discover new worlds as they explore and connect with a curiosity of creatures through a range of interactive activities available in libraries and online,” Cr Eastwood said.
“By creating a fun and dynamic environment in our Livingstone Shire Libraries, we inspire the younger generation to form a genuine love for reading, library spaces and community activities.”
Over 43,000 children registered with the Summer Reading Club in 2017, reading over 360,000 books between them over summer, and organisers are hoping participants will crack half a million books in 2018.
Summer Reading Club members can also meet 21 new Australian authors and illustrators online, read their helpful creative hints and tips and preview exclusives of their up and coming work.
The annual program, funded by Australian Public Libraries Alliance (APLA), provides contributions to deliver this national literacy program through library spaces in different communities, as well as in an online portal.
