A Christmas lunch this afternoon for clients of St Patrick's Community Support Centre was just one of the projects supported in the latest round of Arts and Community grants from the City of Fremantle.
St Pats received $7000 from the City to put on the lunch for clients of its day centre and lodging houses, as well as other community members.
City of Fremantle Community Development Director Fiona Hodges said the Arts and Community grants provided financial assistance to support activities that contribute to the wellbeing, vibrancy, and cultural diversity of Fremantle.
“The aim of our arts grants is to develop and strengthen Fremantle's unique and vibrant arts and cultural sector,” Ms Hodges said.
“We’re happy to support projects that engage and activate the City through the creation of original and quality arts and cultural experiences, or projects that support artists and organisations to extend artistic practices, build capacity and profile.
“Our community grants are for projects that facilitate and promote active participation in the community, and inspire and mobilise community members to explore, grow and express their unique local culture.
“The next round of Arts and Community grants will open in March next year, so I encourage any local artist or community group that needs financial help with a project to apply.”
Other projects to be supported in the latest round of community grants include a documentary on the history of the Fremantle Workers Social and Leisure Club and a series of workshops and pop-up restaurants to upskill local migrants with an interest in cooking.
Projects supported with an arts grants include a three-day festival honouring the life and works of Irish author and activist John Boyle O’Reilly, a series of installations that map a virtual path connecting Fremantle’s cultural institutions and a new theatrical production exploring the changing face of Australian society.
