Plan to boost tourism dollar
AlburyCity News 11 Dec 2018

The 2019-2023 Albury Wodonga Destination Management Plan will guide activities to strengthen the visitALBURYWODONGA brand, and increase visitation, length of stay and visitor spend.

An initiative of the Two Cities One Community partnership, the plan includes the launch of a revitalised visitALBURYWODONGA website that focuses on the ‘user experience’ for people visiting the region.

The plan was developed with valuable input from industry and the local community.

It aims to activate five key areas, including: diversifying the region’s accommodation offer, growing product offer and infrastructure, focusing on destination events, aligning marketing and visitor servicing with growth trends, and supporting industry development.

AlburyCity Mayor Kevin Mack said it provides an excellent road map for growing the local visitor economy.

“The Murray region has enjoyed excellent growth over the past year, attracting more visitors including a record number of international overnight visitors, so this new plan sets a strong foundation for even more growth in the sector, driven by close co-operation between our two cities,” he said.

Wodonga Mayor Anna Speedie said the plan built further on the work already being undertaken by the two councils.

“This is the next step up for us as partners in working together to grow our economy, our visitation and our tourism initiatives,” she said.

“This is not only about attracting new business but also about building on and supporting our present businesses and opening up new opportunities.”

According to statistics provided by Tourism Research Australia, highlights for Albury Wodonga to year-end June 2018 include:

A surge in domestic day trip visitor numbers of almost 45 per cent to almost 1.2 million for the same period on the previous yearA record 25,600 international  overnight visitors (up by almost 30 per cent on year-end June 2017)

The launch of the Destination Management Plan will coincide with the launch of the revitalised visitALBURYWODONGA website and 2019-2020 Official Visitor Guide at an industry event this evening.
