Youth Live4Life Inc., which was founded in the Macedon Ranges and is based on Council’s Live4Life initiative, took out a major state award in Melbourne last week.
The trailblazing initiative, which promotes a whole-of-community approach to mental health education and suicide prevention, won the Improving Mental Health category at the 2018 VicHealth Awards.
Mayor, Cr Janet Pearce attended the awards ceremony, along with Youth Live4Life Inc. board members, Council staff, and current and former Live4Life Crew members
“It’s a great thrill to see this program, which was started by Council in Macedon Ranges Shire, spreading more widely to help more young people throughout Victoria,” she said.
“Live4Life helps support, improve and invest in young people’s mental health both in our shire and beyond, and we’re so pleased to see all this hard work recognised at the state’s major health awards.
“Live4Life is a mental health promotion initiative that also builds resilience, and that’s incredibly powerful.”
The Live4Life model runs in Macedon Ranges Shire each year and has now been introduced in Glenelg and Benalla shires through Youth Live4Life Inc.
