Repairs to Water Play Park

Published on 11 December 2018

There will be limited access to our Water Play Park for several days from tomorrow to allow for repairs to the pebblecrete area of the facility.

Council earlier this year undertook major works to address water quality at the Water Play Park, which were successful, dramatically reducing downtime caused by water quality issues.

These works were based around replacing the coloured softfall surface with pebblecrete.

Unfortunately there has been an unforeseen reaction between residue from the sealing agent used for the original softfall and the new pebblcrete, which has resulted in the pebblecrete breaking down.

This has not only impacted on the amenity of the Water Play Park, but could pose a tripping hazard for users, which will only worsen as usage increases during the approaching busy Christmas/New Year holiday period.

Council’s General Manager Development Mandy Whelan said that given the approaching holiday period is among the busiest of the year for the Water Play Park, it’s imperative to complete repair works now.

“It’s obviously disappointing to see access to this very popular facility impacted, particularly during the warmer summer months, and we certainly understand residents’ frustration, but public safety must remain our priority,” Ms Whelan said.

“In planning and scheduling these works we’ve attempted to keep as much of the Water Play Park as possible operating, while completing the works as quickly as we can to minimise the impact on the community.”

During the repair works, access to the Water Play Park will be limited to the Nowingi Place side of the facility.

Given the specialised nature off the facility, repairs will be managed by an external consultant.

Council expects the repairs will be completed before Christmas and apologises for the disruption.
