Released 12 December 2018
The Shire of Broome Youth Advisory Council (YAC) has held its final meeting for 2018 and celebrated a range of highlights and achievements.
Some of these highlights included hosting their first youth music event, the Broome Vibes Music Sessions, and four members of the YAC attending the Youth Affairs Council of WA’s Un-Fairground Conference in Perth. The group has big goals for 2019 including hosting more music events and planning a National Youth Week event.
The YAC is delivered by the Shire of Broome with funding support from Rio Tinto and is one of the initiatives identified in the Shire of Broome Youth Framework that guides the Shire’s involvement in youth services.
Participants are involved in developing and delivering events and projects for young people in Broome, and gain leadership, work and life skills by working closely with other members, mentors and Shire of Broome staff.
There are three positions open for new YAC members aged 14-24 and two positions open for youth workers or mentors to join the group in 2019. Please contact [email protected] for more information on applying.
